Pensacola Airport
Riddle Aeronautical University's Pensacola Campus, in conjunction with
Pensacola Area Flight Watch is hosting an outdoor fundraising event in
support of Phase II of the Chappie James Memorial Aviation Discovery
Park.
The Chappie James Aviation Discovery Park is the dream of Pensacola Area
Flight Watch (PAFW), an organization dedicated to supporting, educating
and promoting general aviation in the Pensacola area. The park is
located at the Southeast portion of Pensacola Regional Airport, between
Pensacola Aviation Center and the commercial hangar facilities.
Phase I of the park is near completion and includes an observation area
providing a thorough view of airport operations; including both runways,
the Control Tower, Terminal and General Aviation facilities, radio
equipment providing the ability to listen to communications between the
control tower, and the arriving or departing aircraft at Pensacola
Regional Airport. The park will also include a display containing a
picture and biography of General Daniel "Chappie" James, a short history
of the airport, and a layout of the airport showing the location of
major facilities, a miniature control tower, and a play area and
facilities for younger visitors.
This great fundraising event will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
and includes fun for all ages with demonstrations in aeronautics and
physics, children's contests including a paper airplane making and
decorating contest, lost of delicious food, beverages, door prizes and
giveaways.
